Fostering a pet for the Humane Society of Lincoln County means stepping up as a caring temporary guardian. Here’s a snapshot of what it involves:
- Providing Shelter: You’ll offer your new furry friend a safe and comfy home. This means ensuring they have proper shelter, clean water always available, and a tidy living space with suitable bedding, adjusted for the weather.
- Nutrition: Follow the diet plan given by HSLC to keep your foster pet healthy and well-fed.
- Daily Interaction: Spend quality time with your foster pet every day. Play with them, cuddle, and encourage positive behaviors through love and patience.
- Engagement and Enrichment: Tailor activities to their age and energy level, keeping them mentally and physically stimulated.
- Photography: Capture their adorable moments with photos to help find them a forever home. These pics will be posted on adoption websites.
- Personality Assessment: Get to know your foster pet’s personality and report their traits back to HSLC. This information helps in promoting them to potential adopters.
- Health Monitoring: Keep an eye on their behavior and health status. If you notice any changes, stay in touch with HSLC and inform them promptly.
- Medical Appointments: Be prepared to bring your foster pet to the shelter for medical treatments or adoption appointments, with at least 48 hours’ notice.
- Adoption Events: If your foster pet is comfortable with socializing, consider bringing them to adoption events. While you don’t have to attend every event, aim for once every 1-2 months.
- Adoption Conversations: Be ready to speak to potential adopters in person, over the phone, or via email. Provide information on their energy level, training, temperament, and other relevant details with a reasonable response time of 2 business days.
