Programs

We have several components to our adoption program.

  • We shelter animals and feature them on the Petfinder website. This website allows us to include their photographs and biographies. By using this website, the animals are transmitted to over a dozen pet adoption websites to give them nation wide visibility and a better chance of adoption.
  • Offsite Adoption Events – We continuously look for and attend events with our foster animals such as local festivals and pet stores, with hope to find their forever homes. Since we no longer have a shelter for people to come and view our animals, offsite adoptions play a big part in our success of finding them homes as well as giving them a chance to socialize and gain some leash training.

We coordinate with rescue transports throughout the year to attend local and long distance events to help saves many lives!

BFF is a program that begin in 2014 to encourage local residents to foster a cat, dog or litter of kittens until the Humane Society can find them forever homes. In some cases an animal is placed in this program due to recovering from an illness and needing a quiet place to stay, is pregnant and needs a place to give birth or is experiencing stress from the shelter environment and needs a break. Animals can be fostered for a few days or a few weeks. Potential adopters can foster an animal while they evaluate if the animal is a good match for their family.

While providing adequate medical care to ensure all the animals at the shelter remain healthy can be difficult, we still take every opportunity we can afford to give all pets the best care we can!

Pets that come through the shelter are vaccinated and de-wormed. We also test many adult dogs for heart-worms and provide flea, tick and heart-worm preventatives. Every pet is either neutered or is sent home with a voucher to go towards having them neutered.

We understand how scary for both owners and pets when pets get lost. To help, we do our best to try and get lost pets reunited with their owners.

There are a few different ways that we help with this.

  • Microchips – We scan the animals that come in to our shelter for microchips with information to trace them back to their owners.
  • Spread the word –  We use social media to post lost or found pets in the community. We may not always be able to take the animal into the shelter, but we are happy to help spread the word

When we take in a pet with a collar that seems to be lost, we hold them for at least 5 days before ever attempting to adopt them out. This is done to help give the owners enough time to find them.
